Citrus fruits generally grow on flowering trees and have a leathery rind with juicy segments inside. They are full of Vitamin C and Citric Acid, which means they have a lot of benefits of citrus, both by adding them to your diet and using them in your skincare routine by utilizing products with different types of citrus in them.
Reduces Signs of Aging
Like we said above, citrus fruits are full of Vitamin C! Vitamin C can help clear the skin and also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Another benefit of Vitamin C is that it helps your skin retain it's moisture, which is great for dry skin (and skin in general!).
Brightens and Exfoliates Skin
Vitamin C and Citric Acid can brighten skin. The Citric Acid found in citrus also exfoliates the upper layer of dead skin cells. Getting rid of those cells can help clean out your pores and make your skin more soft and smooth.
Anti-bacterial Properties
The anti-bacterial properties found in citrus fruits are beneficial to irritated, oily and/or troublesome skin. They might also help reduce the appearance of scars.
Citrus fruits have so many amazing benefits, we only touched on a few in this post! A couple things to note is that because citrus has a high level of acidic content, it can be a little harsh on sensitive skin. It can also carry photosensitivity concerns, meaning it can make skin more sensitive to sunlight or sunburns. If your skin reacts well to citrus juices, it can be beneficial to find a product or two that has some in it! Just don't forget sunscreen and shade are your friend!
