How many of you, like us here at Legends, grew up slapping some water on your face before bed, or worse yet, just went to bed in your makeup? As we age though, we definitely need to stop doing that, and start taking care of our skin! And as we start changing our skincare routines to add in products that help our skin, we need to remember that the first step in any skincare routine should be cleansing our face! Our skin collects so many toxins daily, plus with products like makeup and sunscreen, we need to make sure we're getting them all off nightly in order to put our best face forward.
What Is Double-Cleansing?
So what is double-cleansing? It's just what it sounds like - cleansing your face twice! Believe us, we know it sounds like a lot of work. But if you're investing in other skincare products, making sure you have clean skin to put them on is the most important thing you can do to let them do their best job! It sounds like a lot of work, and some nights it might seem like it is, but it's the best thing you can do, and really only takes an extra minute or two.
Why Double-Cleanse?
With double-cleansing, the first cleanse will ideally get rid of your sunscreen, makeup, bacteria, pollution, and sweat - all that nasty stuff that builds up on your face during the day. The second cleanse is then able to work its magic and get deep into your pores and clean them out well. Double-cleansing is especially effective for those of us that wear make-up or sunscreen (which we should all be doing!). By double-cleansing, you also don't have to work as vigorously with each product, helping you to be softer to your skin.
How To Double-Cleanse
Your first cleanser should be oil-based. The oil helps to break down and dissolve the products and buildup on your skin. There are many amazing oil-based cleansers available (our soaps are oil-based!). If you prefer, micellar water or a makeup removal wipe is also a good option. Then, with your second cleanse, you use a water-based one that will get deep into your pores and give your skin that really good clean. Be sure to use lukewarm water - not hot! And don't forget to moisturize afterwards!
