Most of us spend time looking at countless products to try and make our skin look as fresh, smooth, and youthful as possible.
Science has shown that what you eat has a big impact on the health of your skin. A poor diet can negatively impact your skin, but there are also changes you can make in your diet to improve the quality of your skin. A healthy diet is the key to glowing, radiant skin.
There are many skin types and skin conditions. It is also true that there isn't one diet that works for every person. It’s important to listen to your body and test out what works best for you.
Below we put together a few tips to finding the perfect diet that will help support healthy skin:
Don’t Forget To Drink Water
Even though you know it’s good for you, it’s hard for some people to drink an adequate amount of water each day. But it’s so important for your skin. Why? Water hydrates your whole body and helps to clear harmful toxins.
When you’re dehydrated, your skin will look and feel dehydrated as well. Drinking more water can help add a little plump and glow to your complexion. To drink more water, it can be helpful to get a large water bottle and commit to filling it up morning, noon, and night.

Get Your Zinc
Because zinc has wound healing properties and helps with the formation of new collagen, it can help minimize inflammation that goes along with many skin problems.
While you can take zinc as a supplement, you can also increase the amount of zinc-rich foods in your diet. Legumes, oysters, nuts, seeds, and oatmeal are all good sources of zinc and are great for a healthy diet.

Eat Antioxidants
Antioxidants help to fight free radicals and can help to improve skin texture. Because free radicals can damage healthy skin cells and create oxidative stress, eating a healthy diet with lots of antioxidants will help keep your skin looking healthy.
If you want to up your antioxidant intake, focus on eating blueberries (especially wild blueberries), strawberries, raspberries, dark chocolate, pecans, kale, and beans. Of course, there are many other sources of antioxidants as well!
*Bonus Tip: Cranberries are some of the most antioxidant-rich foods around and Jalapenos are rich in vitamins which have been shown to keep your skin healthy and firm.

Reduce Sugar Intake
Because most of us love sugar, this can be a tough one to accept. Excess sugar can make a mess of your skin.
High sugar levels don’t just lead to skin eruptions, they can also lead to the appearance of premature aging. Sugars attach to collagen and can lead to a hardening process called glycation which may cause early wrinkles and skin sagging over time.
Reducing your sugar intake may be a great step to take if you’re trying to keep your skin looking fresh and smooth.

Pay Attention To Sensitivities
While there is a difference between being allergic to something and having a sensitivity, sensitivities to certain foods can still wreak havoc on your body including your skin.
With a food sensitivity, you will often have symptoms that you may or may not connect to a certain food you’re eating. It’s common to see people with gluten or dairy sensitivities who would benefit from cutting those foods to see if they notice an improvement in their skin.

Focusing on a healthy diet that focuses on farm fresh produce will not only improve the quality of your skin, but your overall health as well.
Everyone is different, so you may need to do some research and testing to find what works best for you. We suggest you check out your local farmer’s market, or local farm stands, which are more likely to focus on delicious fresh food. (You will be less likely to bring home food that will negatively impact your skin.)
