By joining together different habits, we can now take what we've learned about how to create new habits, and take those skills and create new long-lasting routines that can help us be more productive, organized, and happy. Sometimes we resist the idea of having a routine because it feels restricting, but having no structure or routine is what wreaks havoc on our health and causes us stress. It helps us make fewer decisions daily, and gain gratitude and positivity.
What Is A Routine?
Like we discussed in the first post of this series, routines are usually a collection of habits you do on a regular basis to bring order to your day. The example we used earlier was this: maybe as soon as you get to work you check your voicemail, return calls, then check your email - all in the same order, every day. Building routines into your day can help you feel more in control and increase your productivity. Think of cultivating a daily routine as an investment in your own health and life. Following a routine helps you establish priorities, and keep track of your goals, so you know you are bettering yourself every day!

How To Create a Routine
If you are starting from scratch, creating a whole new routine might feel a little overwhelming. A great first step is to sit down and make a list of all the tasks you need and/or want to accomplish. Once you have that list, you can start breaking your tasks into blocks of time such as morning, afternoon, and evening. If you work at an office you might have to create lists for your morning at home and your morning at the office. How you organize your day is up to you! One thing to think about is to put the hardest task or thing you like to do least somewhere at the beginning of your day. Getting that task over and done with will make you more apt to tackle other things, and you'll feel great once it's been done.

Try Out Your Routine
When you're first starting out, it might be helpful to have your new routine written out so you can refer to it as you go. Give it a try for 2-3 weeks and see how it works for you. Don't be afraid to switch things up as you find they make more sense for your lifestyle. We will probably constantly be changing some habits as we go through life and its seasons, but once you have a good routine down, it makes it easier to make those small switches as needed. Creating that consistency throughout your day to day life is sure to pay off!
Creating habits and routines in your life really can be life-changing. Routines help create consistency in our lives and help with our time management. Healthy habits and routines don't hinder us, they help us! If you're struggling to find purpose and time in your life, try building a daily routine, and see how it changes your mindset and actions. There is no time like the present to start making your life work for you!
