We all know that in general we should both shampoo and condition our hair. But why? What is the difference between the two and why is it best for our hair to use both? They are made and used for different purposes, so let's learn more about what those are!
Shampoo
Fun fact: the word shampoo comes from the Hindi word champo which means head massage. Shampoo is a liquid soap that is used to remove oil, pollutants, and dead skin cells from the strands of your hair to give it a good cleanse. When shampooing your hair be sure to focus on the scalp and stimulating your hair follicles in order to get a good clean and help promote hair growth!
Conditioner
Conditioner is generally used after you wash your hair and contains agents that can influence appearance, softness, and manageability of your hair. When you condition you should focus on the mid-shafts to ends of your hair, to help moisturize your hair and prevent dead ends.
Using The Two
There are many different shampoos that you can use to wash your hair, then you follow it up with a conditioner. You want to make sure that you're using a shampoo that is right for your hair type. A good rule of thumb is to wash your hair with a shampoo that is formulated for the hair you have, and then use a conditioner for the hair you want. For example, if you have color treated hair, used a shampoo for color treated hair, and if you're wanting more voluminous hair use a volumizing conditioner. Doing that will help you find your best hair!
Shampoos and conditioners are meant to be used for different reasons, and are formulated that way on purpose! Cleansing with a shampoo made for your hair type and then moisturizing with a good conditioner will help give you great hair and boost your confidence so you can live your best life.
