Where Does It Originate?
Balsams come from all over the world - North America, South America, the Middle East and Europe. The Balsam of Matariyya has long been used as a medicine, with references to the substance recorded as far back as 285 BC, and it also referred to as the Balm of Mecca or the Balm of Gilead. There are many other balsams that have been used for centuries, and we'll talk about some next.

It might be surprising to you that a variety of substances you've heard of before are balsams. Some of those are Balsam Fir, Balm of Gilead, Frankincense, Myrrh, and Copaiba. These balsams have a variety of uses, and are more commonly used than you think!

Uses of Balsam
Balsam fir essential oil is a really popular oil and has many uses due to it's antiseptic properties. It has also been used as a decongestant, and aromatically can be used for invigoration, stimulation and to energize.
Myrrh is another balsam that has been used for centuries. It has antiseptic properties and is commonly used in incense.
Frankincense been traded for over 6000 years. It has anti-bacterial properties and can help relieve pain. As an essential oil it's common to use in the bath for it's relaxation and anti-inflammatory properties.
